hi everyone. Its been so long since ive been on here! but anyways...I am 3 years out from gastric bypass and am currently 13 weeks pregnant.  I am having a terrible time with this pregnancy.  I cant work due to passing out.  It happens randomly.  I went to my drs and my blood pressure is always low.  I take my blood pressure everyday and like today it was 95/66.  I always feel like im going to faint and have a couple times.  My dr tells me to eat every 30 min to keep it stable but at the same time i feel like thats the total opposite of my RNY directions.  I try to pick all day at stuff.  I have gained 3 pounds so far and in the very beginning i lost 8lbs.  I always feel so tired and out of breath like i just ran a damn marathon.  I am 170lbs and have been for about 2 years now.  Im just wondering if anyone else has this problem.  Thanks!

I have not had this problem. I hope you can figure out a way to deal with it though. I am so sorry, that really stinks and sounds scary.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I had the same problems through my whole pregnancy. I had very low blood pressure. One time while I was in the hospital for kidney infection it was 68/48 and they were all freaked out. I tried to tell them that was normal for me since I got pregnant but they dont listen to us. I had to eat often and keep something sweet around for me. I ate A LOT and seemed like all I did all day was eat something or another. Since I  had my baby girl in November everything has gone back to normal. Just eat often and stay hydrated. It helps a lot. :)

my blood pressure is lower too, the top number ranging from 96-110 and then the bottom number is usually 60-70.   The lowest I've seen it so far was 97/67!!!   I also have a slight case of hypoglycemia that was brought on by the pregnancy about a month or two ago, so I have to eat every 2-3 hrs or whenever I feel weird (dizzy, nauseated, tired, etc).   I try to balance out my meals and snacks to have  protein/carbs/sugars so I can maintain a good blood sugar level.   My ob/gyn says that I just have a really active liver that chews up the carbs/sugar really fast and then my blood sugar sometimes drops lower than normal.   I carry around a little bag of trail mix with me or a peanut granola bar and some water and that helps a lot.

I only gained like 3 lbs until 20 weeks, but then after 26 wks, the weight started coming on.   I am 33 wks now and have gained 22 lbs and I think that's a good number.    GL to you!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

I'm not having any problems low blood pressure and fainting with this pregnancy, but with my son (who is now 18 months old) I had a terrible time with it from beginning to end! My Dr. even talked about taking my license away during my pregnancy as I was fainting so often.

I eventually learned how to recognize when it was going to happen and sat down on the floor instantly (no matter where I was, yes, I got some funny looks! LoL) and put my head between my knees to keep myself from completely blacking out. The other thing that I did was start carrying around Gluclose tablets that you can buy at the pharmacy. They come in different flavors and are these sugar tablets you can pop when you start getting light headed that help bring you back around. They were a life saver for me!

My only other suggestion would be to make sure your OB and primary care know all about this so they can make some medically knowledgable suggestions as to things you can do to help, like diet, etc. I've had low blood pressure ever since I had my bypass just over 2 years ago, it's almost always 95/65, sometimes a lil lower. But it was my sugar numbers that were really causing my the trouble with my fainting spells. Since I delivered my son 18 months ago, it hasn't happened again! And I'm currently going on 29 weeks pregnant again and hasn't happened at all this pregnancy and I don't think I'm doing anything different. Doesn't the body work in some seriously mysterious ways!!! Best of luck!

I'm almost 3 years out myself and am 15 weeks pregnant, so we have very similar cir****tances. I'm having a hard time with my pregnancy so far as well. RNY and pregnancy are NOT mixing for me. This is my 5th baby (9th pregnancy), but my 1st post-op baby (and probably my last post-op baby, don't know if I can go through another one if it will be this hard again). I should just say that 95/66 would be a normal, great bp for me! But for most it is on the low side. That's why you're passing out. I don't have the passing out problems but I do get quite dizzy from time to time, which is completely normal. I check my bp and it's usually around 70/40 when that happens so I just lay down on my right side......not my left because laying on your left side will lower your bp even more so be careful of that too. Passing out happens in pregnancy, but when it does, you should call your Dr. just to let them know. There can be other reasons for passing out in pregnancy besides the low bp so it's definitely worth the call to the doc. I sure hope it quits for you cuz I know it sucks! Oh the feeling out of breath thing is pretty normal too, but again mention it to your Doc when you see him/her. And it's one of those things that sucks even more cuz it makes you feel SO yucky....and out of shape......and blah....lol I hate that feeling. Just take it slow and easy and you're just out of your 1st trimester now so those things should start getting a little better.......until the 3rd trimester....oh fun! Take care!
